September 2011 Zambian Inflation Stands At 8.8 Percent

It was on 29th September 2011 that John Kalumbi reported that the September 2011 Zambian inflation increased to 8.8 percent from 8.3 percent reported in August 2011.


Announcing the figures in Lusaka, Mr. John Kalumbi who is the Central Statistics Acting director said the inflation rate was attributed to increase in some food and non-food prices

The year-end inflation target for 2011 was revised and it was expected to be at 8.0 percent. However in the 2011 Zambian budget submitted by the then Finance minister, Situmbeko Musokotwane, the target was set at 7.0 percent.

Trade Surplus of K 884.2 billion

A trade surplus of K 884.2 billion was recorded in August 2011. This was an increase from K 440.7 billion recorded in July 2011.

Since January 2011, the country has had monthly surpluses. The highest was recorded in January 2011 at K 1,484.3 billion, while the lowest was in July 2011 at K 440.7 billion. . Indicated below are the monthly trade surpluses for Zambia, showing the lowest this year being recorded in July 2011:
  • December 2010 – K 840.6 billion
  • January 2011 – K 1,484.3 billion
  • February 2011 – K 648.4 billion
  • March 2011 – K 862.3 billion
  • April 2011 – K 1,105.4 billion
  • May 2011 – K 774.8 billion
  • June 2011 – K 527.3 billion
  • July 2011 – 440.7 billion
