Nsumbu National Park covers an area of 2000 square kilometers which includes part of the shores of Lake Tanganyika.
The Park has a wide range of wild animals. The most common are: bushbuck, warthog, puku, roan, sable, eland, hartebeest, zebra, duiker, crocodiles, antelope, sitatunga, hyena, side-striped jackal, serval, impala, waterbuck and reedbuck.
Nsumbu National Park is also home to big game like buffalos, elephants and hippos. Sightings of leopard and lion are not rare.
Fish species most common are lake salmon, yellow belly, golden perch, catfish, Nile perch and tiger fish.
Lake Tanganyika is located in the northern province of Zambia and it’s shared by Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Tanzania and Zambia. But only 7 percent of its surface area is within Zambia. Lake Tanganyika is home to more than 350 different species of fish.
