The Mosi Oa Tunya National Park is located in the Southern Province of Zambia.
The park is along the Zambezi River and it is home to the Victoria Falls, also known as the Mosi-oa-Tunya or ‘the smoke that thunders’ in local language.
A visit to the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park is incomplete without seeing the Victoria Falls, one of the natural wonders of the world.
Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park is an UNESCO World Heritage site. The Park has a statue of the Scottish explorer David Livingstone. It was erected In November 2005. On Livingstone Island, a plaque was also unveiled to mark the spot from where Livingstone first saw the Victoria Falls.
Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park covers an area of 66 square kilometres. Plans are underway to extend the Park further up the Zambezi River. The Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park enables a wonderfully relaxing drive alongside the Zambezi River. And, many animal species can easily be seen in the Park because of its small size.
The National Park has plenty of wildlife which includes hippopotamus, crocodile, vervet monkeys, baboons, giraffe, zebra, warthog, sable, antelope, eland, buffalo, impala and many species of birds. Elephants are a common sight and can occasionally be seen crossing the Zambezi River from the Zimbabwean side.
The Lodge is named after Sussi and Chuma, the two Africans who accompanied David Livingstone during his expeditions.
