Lochinvar National Park is not well known for large game animals, but it is best known for the abundance and variety of its birdlife.
The park is located on the southern edge of the Kafue Flats in central Zambia. It extends for 33 kilometres from the Kafue River in the north to low wooded hills in the south.
It is a very popular destination for Zambian Birding safaris. The park is the country’s best bird sanctuary and is ideally suited for bird watching.
In comparison to the whole country which is home to more than 740 species of birds, Lochinvar Park boasts of over 420 bird species in its 428 square kilometres!

The wetlands of Lochinvar Park have a lot of bird species which includes water birds, fish-eaters, woodland species and migrants. Some of these bird species occur in quite large numbers. Birding lovers can also enjoy the unspoilt scenery of Lochinvar Park.
Most of the Lochinvar Park is made up of the Kafue flats. The Kafue Lechwe is confined to the Kafue flats and the Lochinvar National Park itself. Zebras are also present in large numbers.
