Bilimungwe Bushcamp is located in the South Luangwa National Park. It is one of the renowned Zambian Game Sanctuaries.
Established in the 2000s, Bilimungwe is part of The Bushcamp Company, which operates Mfuwe Lodge and six other Bushcamps.
The Bushcamp offers its guests accommodation in any one of its four chalets. Guests can even see the birds and animals right from the guest rooms.
One attraction is the Bilimungwe lounge. This is set beneath a huge mahogany tree. So it is a cool, shady lounge area that looks out over one of the camp’s three waterholes.
Why is this a nature- lover’s paradise. There are four large thatched rooms all of which overlook pumped waterholes. The rooms are very comfortable with a sitting area plus indoor and outdoor showers and large raised deck area. Game is constantly seen coming down to drink.
Bilimungwe accommodates up to eight guests and is open from May to December.
Bilimungwe Bushcamp has a number of activities for its guest. Among them are…
The Luangwa National park is famous for its walking safaris. In fact, walking safaris are known to have originated in the south Luangwa! These safaris are breathtakingly awesome as they allow you to experience the wildness of the game park on a personal level.
Furthermore, there is simply no better way of viewing the untamed African wildlife than the walking safaris! South Luangwa National Park is truly the best Zambian Walking Safaris destination!
There are the herbivores, which are the most plentiful. Their large numbers are due to the large amount and variety of vegetation.
The largest land mammal, the elephant, is easy to spot and roams in herds of up to 70.
The other large mammal which you definitely can’t miss is the Hippo. The Luangwa River and valley has quite a high concentration of hippos—about 50 per square Km.
The antelope deserves special mention due to its abundance. The species of antelope that you will find here are: Reedbuck, Roan, Sable, hartebeest, grysbok, Klipspringer, oribi, Kudu, puku, impala, Eland, duiker and bushbuck.
Other intriguing herbivores include the zebra, which occurs in herds of about a dozen; the buffalo; and the thornicrafts giraffe.
The other class of wildlife is the carnivorous class. This is where we find the majestic African Cats—the lion, the elusive leopard, the agile but rare cheetah and the leopard.
Other significant carnivores include the crocodile, the hyena, the wild dog, the caracal, the serval and the rare side jackal.
Another remarkable feature of the wildlife is the birds. There are over 400 bird species in the park. The park teams with birds, and this is largely due to the arrival of migratory birds from Europe and other parts of Africa during this time.
