The December 2016 Zambian inflation rate closed at 7.5 percent, just below the targeted rate of 7.7 percent as presented in the 2016 Zambian budget by the then Minister of Finance Mr Alexander B Chikwanda.
The recorded 7.5 percent December 2016 Zambian annual inflation rate was an improvement from 8.8% recorded in November 2016.
This means that on average, between December 2015 and December 2016, prices increased by 7.5 percent.
Food and non-alcoholic beverages products accounted for 4.1 percent while non-food products accounted for 3.4 percent.
It is interesting that Zambia has met the inflation target for 2016, which was set at 7.7 percent in the 2015 annual budget presentation.
