Kuomboka Ceremony
by: Anonymous

Hi,

Though you have not given your name, here is the answer.

The ceremony takes place at the end of the rain season, around March and April. During this period, the Zambezi River floods the plain of Western province. This is the time when the Litunga, king of the Lozi people moves from Lealui to Limulunga on higher ground. The ceremony this year (2010) is scheduled to take place on 17th April 2010.

Rumor from the grape vine has it that the ceremony will be graced by President Rupiah Banda.

Incidentally, Kuomboka means to get out of water.

In the 2010 organizing committee are Monde Akatumwa, Vice-chairperson Ireen Muyenga and Chairperson Oliver Saasa. Recently Zain Zambia donated K 50 million to kick start the ceremony.

And MTN Zambia has also donated K 175 million. Commenting on this contribution, company brand and sponsorship manager Sally Namutowe said MTN Zambia will continue to give back to the communities from a corporate social responsibility perspective.

That's my small contribution!

James
