The May 2014 Zambian inflation rate remained static at 7.8 Percent as that recorded in April. The CSO (Central Statistical Office) director Mr John Kalumbi said that on average prices increased by 7.8 percent between May 2013 and May 2014.
However, there was an increase in the annual food inflation rate from 7.6 percent to eight percent recorded last month and a reduction in the annual rate of inflation for housing, water electricity, transport, fuel, restaurant and hotel.
A comparison of retail prices between April and May 2014 showed an increase in the national average price of a 25 kilogram bag of breakfast mealie meal by 1.9 percent from K73.37 to K74.77.
Meawhile,the same quantity of roller mealie-meal decreased by 1.3 percent from K58.48 to K57.74.
A 20 litre tin of maize grain (Corn) decreased by 15.7 percent from K36.03 to K30.36.
