Edgar Chagwa LunguUpon the untimely death of Michael Sata, Lungu was chosen as the PF candidate for the January 2015 presidential by-election at a Patriotic Front national convention held in Kabwe.
After being elected as President of the Patriotic Front at a national convention held in Kabwe, Mr Lungu kicked off his presidential campaign in Kitwe on the 6th of December 2014.
He faced quiet a reasonable challenge from the likes of Edith Nawakwi of the Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD), Hakainde Hichilema of the United Party for National Development (UPND), Nevers Mumba of the Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) and others.
But his biggest challenge and closest rival was Hakainde Hichilema (H.H) of the United Party for National Development whom he beat by a margin of 27,757 votes.
One of the notable changes he has done to the cabinet is the removal of Dr. Guy Scott as Vice President in favor of Inonge Wina.
