Zambia Airline
At the moment, the only Zambia Airline which could rightly gain the status of being so is Zambezi Airline. And the Airline only operates in the region, covering countries such as Tanzania and South Africa.
However, you can fly in or out of Zambia at the Lusaka International Airport by using British Airways, Kenya Airways, South African Airways, Ethiopian Airways, Air Malawi, AIR Tanzania and Air Zimbabwe.
Apart from the Lusaka International Airport, Zambia has also Livingstone and Mfuwe serving as international airports.
Effective 17th September 2009, Kenya Airways also launched direct flights to Ndola.
So if you are flying from USA and Asia you need to make connections in Kenya, South Africa or Europe.
The past Airline flag carriers
Sometime back, Zambia Airways was the National Carrier. However, in due course the government decided that the airline be responsible for its own operations. As a result of the worsening economic climate of the 1990’s, the airline was liquidated in 1995.
The next one which became the flag carrier was Zambian Airways. In the face of financial woes being experienced by the Airline industry the world over, on 10th January 2009, the company announced that it was suspending operations due to high fuel costs.
Other Airlines
The other Airline which has covered Zambia is Proflight Zambia offering both scheduled and charter flights to the Copperbelt, Luangwa Valley, Victoria Falls and lower Zambezi.
There also other small Airlines servicing the local market and for sure…
At the end of the day, we are going to have, not only one but so many Zambian Airline flag carriers!
