Monze Town

Monze town is 138 kilometers from Kafue – Chirundu junction but 287 kilometers from the City of Livingstone. It is the administrative center of Monze district. The town is in the Southern Province of Zambia.

The name Monze was derived form Chief Monze the leader of the Tonga people who inhabits the district.

Lwiindi ceremony

Lwiindi ceremony is an annual festival of thanks giving which is witnessed by a lot of people around the country. It is held at a place called Gonde south of the town.

Industry

Agriculture is the main industry. Maize is the most important crop. At some time in the past it used to produce more than 25% of the maize crop in Zambia – hence, it was popularly known as the “home of Zambia granary”.
