Yes, the place is home to Zambia Sugar Company. The company sells sugar to the local market and some is exported abroad.

The town is 80 kilometers from Kafue and 124 kilometers southwest of the city of Lusaka. It is the most developed town between Lusaka and Livingstone.

The population was estimated at 35,000 in the 2000 census.
