Kafue Town - Just 44 Kilometers From Lusaka!

Kafue town is 44 kilometers south of Lusaka, the capital city of Zambia, and about 428 kilometers from Livingstone.

Kafue is a small dormitory town. Most people who stay here work in Lusaka.

The rent charges for houses are low and of course the crime rate is low as well – no wonder these people love it here!

Industries

Industries are non existent, save for Kafue Steel Plant, which has been constructed. Most of the industries have closed, including Nitrogen Chemicals which was one of the prominent companies here.

Starting in the year 2009, the Nitrogen Chemicals started getting to life.Government, through the Ministry of Agriculture and Co-operatives started to annually award contracts to NCZ to produce fertiliser.

In the farming season of 2011/2012, Government had contracted NCZ to produce 30,000 tonnes of compound D.

Banks

There only two banks in town; Barclays bank on the main road leading from Lusaka to Livingstone and Zambia National Commercial bank in Kafue Estates, off the main road as you drive towards Nitrogen Chemicals of Zambia.

Stanbic bank does not have a bank here, but you can draw cash from their installed ATM machine found on the left side of the road towards Livingstone near the main bus station.

Lodges and Motels

There are a few lodges and motels in Kafue such as Chocho's "B" Lodge, Bayi motel, Lechwe lodge, River Motel, Divine Guest House , House of Excellence Guest House (+260 211 214 081), Lafayette Guest House, High Park Lodge, Lwanginga Guest Lodge ( +260 977 584859), Village Guest House (+260 977 67480), Dora’s Guest House (+260 955 786819, musangudm@yahoo.com), and Lillo Executive Lodge (+260 955 837200, +260 955 640808,+260 955 398398).

Just as you enter town from Lusaka, there is Faduco’s Corner (+260 977 456701, +260 977 849704), a pub which has diversified into providing accommodation as well.

Petrol Filling Stations

There are three filling stations in the town: two Total stations and one BP filling station.

As you drive in from Lusaka towards the town center, the first filling station you encounter is the BP station. As you drive out of the town, the last filling station at your service is the Total filling station. The other Total filling station is in Estates, off the Lusaka main road.

Relaxation

10 kilometers south of Kafue town, on the Kafue River, just about a stone throw away from the Kafue Bridge, is the famous Kafue Queen boat. It offers cruises on the Kafue River. Incidentally, the Kafue River forms the boundary between Lusaka province and Southern province.

Right on the Kafue Queen boat you may have weddings, parties and other functions. You can also fish while on the Kafue Queen or the fishermen will take advantage and sell you their catches before you embark or after you disembark from the “Queen”.
