The April 2011 Zambian Inflation Reduces To 8.8 Percent
Its encouraging! The April 2011 Zambian inflation reduced to 8.8 percent from 9.2 percent recorded in March 2011.
The reduction in the April 2011 inflation in March 2011 was mainly attributed to the presidential directive to the food reserve agency to reduce the price of maize by 20 percent.
The other factor was a reduction in prices for some non-food prices.
The April 2011 inflation rate was announced by Central Statistics deputy director, John Kalumbi on 28th April 2011.
Composition of the April 2011 Zambia inflation
Food products accounted for 1.6 percent while non-food products accounted for 7.2 in the April 2011 annual inflation rate.
Mr. Kalumbi said there was a reduction in the annual inflation for food, beverages and tobacco, clothing and footwear, household fuel and lighting.
However, furniture and household goods, transport and communication, medical care, recreation and education registered increments in the annual inflation rate in the month of April 2011.
There was a reduction in the food inflation from 3.8 percent in March 2011 to 3.3 percent in April 2011.
The annual non-food inflation reduced to 14.0 percent in April 2011 from 14.5 percent in March 2011.

Starting from January 2011, Zambia has been reporting trade surpluses. In the month of March 2011, a trade surplus of K 862.3 billion was recorded.
The country exported more in March 2011 than it imported. K 3.67 trillion worth goods were exported, against K 2.81 trillion of imports in March 2011.
