2008 Zambian Inflation Rate Misses Target by 9.6 percent
Inflation Target for the year 2008The 2008 Zambian inflation target was set at 7 percent. From the month of January 2008, Zambia’s inflation rate maintained a single digit rate until May 2008 when it reached double digits at 10.9 percent and in December 2008, it shot to 16.6 percent! Contributing to this were high global prices, rising food prices, and power outages. The upward surge was expected. As early as 17th June 2008, at an Economics Association of Zambia (EAZ), Bank of Zambia (BoZ) Deputy Governor of operations Dr. Kalyalya said the Zambian inflation will continue to rise as a result of rising cost of commodities.
